She was born in 1992 in St. Joseph, Michigan, U.S. to father Jeff Upton and mother Shelley, a former tennis star of Texas. She belonged to a well to do family and her relatives were known public personalities. Her great grand dad was a co-founder and marketer of popular appliance manufacturer Whirlpool. Likewise, her uncle, Fred Upton, is a U.S. representative. She moved to Melbourne, Florida with her family during her teenage days. She was genuinely interested in horse riding so she took horse riding training in her school and also competed in the American Paint Horse Association that was organized at the national level.In 2008, Kate Upton was endorsed to Elite Model Management after attending a casting call. Afterwards, she migrated to New York City and signed a modeling contract with IMG Models.
