ordan was born on February 17, 1963, in Brooklyn, New York, one of James and Deloris Jordan’s five children. When Michael was very young. they moved to Wilmington, North Carolina, James father worked as a General Electric plant supervisor, and his mother was a banker. His father taught him to work hard and not to be tempted by street life. His mother taught him to sew, clean, and do laundry. Michael attended Emsley A. Laney High School in Wilmington, North Carolina.After graduating, he was offered many athletic scholarships from different colleges such as Duke, Syracuse and South Carolina, but he accepted North Carolina’s basketball scholarship in 1991 and majored in Cultural Geography.Michael left college to enter the 1984 NBA Draft, but eventually came back and graduated in 1986.Jordan always loved sports but failed to make his high school basketball team as a sophomore. He continued to practice and succeed in making the team the next year. After high school he accepted a basketball scholarship to the University of North Carolina, where he played under head coach Dean Smith.
